Erdogan: Turkey maintains contacts with Ukraine and Russia to revive Istanbul process
This was discussed during a telephone conversation between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrinform reports, citing a statement from the Turkish leader's office on social media X.
“Turkey is making every effort to end the war between Ukraine and Russia by establishing a just and lasting peace... Contacts with the parties are continuing to revitalize the Istanbul process, and Turkey is ready to do everything possible to open the door to peace as soon as possible,” the statement said.
During the conversation, Erdogan stressed that diplomatic channels should be used as effectively as possible to achieve lasting peace.
According to him, Turkey will continue its efforts towards a ceasefire, avoiding steps that threaten global peace, and will contribute to peace efforts.
During the conversation, the parties also discussed bilateral Turkish-French relations and the situation in the Caucasus, Gaza, and Syria.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Monday, December 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was on a visit to France. At a joint press conference, Macron said that there is currently no “complete peace plan,” but only a number of issues for which various parties are responsible for making decisions.
