Zelensky: Putin will agree to peace talks if Ukraine's skies are protected

He made this statement in his address at a high-level UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

"If we could strengthen our skies with a joint system to shoot down Russian missiles and drones, it would force Russia to stop its attacks from the sky – because everything could be shot down. And so, Putin would be forced to sit here [at the UN], or in another respectful venue, and look for a truce on the ground," Zelensky said.

He stressed that "if there's no war in the sky – Russia can't keep fighting on the ground," adding that he had discussed this issue with U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders.

As reported, Zelensky is in New York participating in the high-level events of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
