Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal met with a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress, led by Representatives Michael Turner and Eugene Vindman, to discuss preparations for signing an agreement between the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States on the joint production and sale of drones.

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal reported this on Facebook.

“It was an honor to meet in Kyiv with a bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress, headed by Representatives Michael Turner and Eugene Vindman. The core of our conversation was support for Ukraine. I expressed gratitude to the United States for its consistent assistance on the path toward a lasting and just peace. I also acknowledged the significant contributions of the U.S. government that are saving Ukrainian lives—particularly the delivery of Patriot systems,” Shmyhal noted.

The parties discussed how the United States could further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including through the PURL mechanism.

Shmyhal also emphasized the importance of maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia and using frozen Russian assets to finance support for Ukraine.

Additionally, the sides addressed preparations for a presidential-level agreement between Ukraine and the United States concerning the production and sale of drones.

Shmyhal expressed his appreciation to the United States for its solidarity and unwavering support.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, in July, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he and U.S. President Donald Trump were considering a “mega deal” under which the United States would purchase battle-tested Ukrainian drones in exchange for Kyiv’s agreement to buy a certain quantity of American-made weapons.

In August, President Zelensky announced that the drone production agreement with the United States would involve manufacturing 10 million drones annually over a five-year period.
