Sweden voices concern over restrictions on NABU, SAPO independence
As reported by Ukrinform, Sweden’s foreign ministry issued a statement on social media platform X.
“The law adopted yesterday by Ukraine’s Parliament raises serious concerns about the independence of Ukraine’s anti-corruption institutions,” the statement reads.
It further emphasized: “Ukraine has made important progress fighting corruption in the past decade – staying the course is essential.”
The Swedish foreign ministry concluded by reaffirming: “Sweden remains a strong partner for reform in Ukraine.”
As Ukrinform previously reported, the European Commission has expressed serious concern over the decision by the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) to eliminate safeguards protecting the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
