Ukraine and Romania have agreed to cooperate in ensuring the transit of Ukrainian goods and to open a new border crossing point.

These are the results of the visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal to Bucharest and his talks with Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, the Government portal reports.

“A joint intergovernmental statement on strengthening cooperation to ensure the safe transit of Ukrainian goods was signed,” reads the statement.

The document provides for restoration and improvement of transport infrastructure destroyed by Russia; the opening of new road, rail, sea and river crossing points along the common border; the intention to develop access roads and railway infrastructure to these points, to implement traffic management mechanisms to reduce congestion, and to simplify border, customs and phytosanitary controls; considering, where possible and appropriate, coordinated border controls to facilitate transit of goods between Ukraine and Romania; an agreement to facilitate the transhipment of Ukrainian products in Romanian sea and river ports; intensification of cooperation in the Danube region.

This will be achieved by making full use of existing port infrastructure and attracting investment in its development.

The governments of Ukraine and Romania also exchanged notes on the opening of a border crossing point between Bila Tserkva and Sighetu Marmaţiei. It will operate round-the-clock for passenger and freight traffic.

As reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal arrived in Bucharest on August 18, where he met with Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu. The parties discussed many important issues.
