Guterres’ spokesman: drone attack on Moscow can’t be compared with constant strikes on Ukraine

Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesman for the UN Secretary General, considers it incorrect to compare the drone attack on Moscow with the constant shelling of Ukraine by Russian forces.

The relevant comment came as the spokesman answered reporters’ questions on Tuesday.

Responding to an Ukrinform correspondent's request to comment on Russia’s latest mass strike on Ukraine, Dujarric noted that the position of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who condemns attacks on civilian infrastructure, remains unchanged.

The Russian journalist also asked the spokesman to express the Secretary General's position regarding the drone attack on Moscow on May 30.

According to Dujarric, the UN condemns any attacks on civilian objects but in no way can one compare the drone attack on Moscow with the constant shelling of Ukraine, he emphasized.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, referring to Russian mass media, nearly 25 drones attacked Moscow and the surrounding region. Most of them have allegedly been shot down by air defenses, some of the drones got caught in trees and wires as they were flying at an extremely low altitude. Three drones crashed into residential buildings. In one of them, explosives did not detonate upon impact.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said that its detectives are working on the scenes.

The Ukrainian Air Force refused to comment on the drone attack.
