Hungary’s Szijártó accuses U.S. ambassador of war propaganda

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Péter Szijártó, accused the U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, David Pressman, of efforts to promote war.

This was reported by the Hungarian publication Telex, Ukrinform saw.

"The United States is clearly trying to push Hungary into the war camp but Hungary belongs to the global pro-peace majority," Szijjártó told a press conference on Friday. According to him, Pressman is famous for war propaganda.

It is noted that the U.S. ambassador met with refugees and humanitarian volunteers near the Ukrainian border.

Since the beginning of the war, Szijártó has visited Russia five times to discuss energy issues but not once has he met with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba. While other countries are making a choice in favor of independence from Russian energy, Hungary is strengthening its ties with Russia’s energy giant Gazprom.

Szijártó responded by saying that he sends ambassadors to other countries "to improve bilateral relations, not to consider them smarter than the locals."

"We understand that Ambassador Pressman believes we should deal with the war," said the head of the Foreign Ministry. “That is why he is engaged in war propaganda. You can see it on his posters, you can see it in his statements, he is an expert in war propaganda. But we don't want any of that because we don't want to deal with war, we want to deal with peace."

It should be recalled that Ambassador Pressman, who has been in the position since September 2022, has repeatedly criticized the Hungarian government and Foreign Minister Szijjártó for their openly pro-Russia stance.
