NATO allies will continue to provide Ukraine with political, material, and financial support, as well as critically important equipment, to help the country realize its right to self-defense.

That’s according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who spoke at a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday ahead of the extraordinary defense ministerial, which is to take place on March 16, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The whole world has condemned this senseless war. NATO Allies, the European Union and other countries have introduced unprecedented sanctions on Russia. For many years, NATO Allies have trained tens of thousands of Ukrainian troops. Many of them are now fighting on the front-lines. Allies have also provided significant quantities of critical equipment. Including anti-tank and air defense weapons, drones, ammunition and fuel.  This training and equipment is helping Ukraine to defend itself,” Stoltenberg stressed.

“Ukraine has a fundamental right to self-defense, enshrined in the UN Charter. And NATO Allies and partners will continue to help Ukraine uphold that right. By providing military equipment, and financial and humanitarian assistance,” Stoltenberg added.

He said NATO defense ministers will meet on Wednesday, at the moment that is crucial for European security.

“President Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine is causing death and destruction every day. It has shocked the world. And shaken the international order. The Ukrainian people are fighting bravely. Defending their homes. And their future. And we must support them. Tomorrow we will be joined by the Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov. And our other partners Georgia, Finland, Sweden, and the European Union,” Stoltenberg said.

He added that the Ukrainian defense chief will be speaking with his NATO counterparts via a secure video link.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Putin unleashed an unprovoked war against Ukraine. Russian troops have been destroying Ukrainian cities and towns, firing MLR systems, carrying out air strikes, and missile attacks.
