Biden, Macron discuss build-up of Russian military on Ukraine's borders

U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron in a phone call discussed Russia's military build-up on Ukraine's borders and agreed to coordinate their actions in response.

Ukrinform reports this with reference to a press release posted on the White House’s website.

“The two leaders affirmed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reviewed our ongoing coordination on both diplomacy and preparations to impose swift and severe economic costs on Russia should it further invade Ukraine,” the report says.

President Biden and President Macron agreed “their teams will stay in close touch, including in consultation with NATO Allies and EU partners, on our coordinated and comprehensive approach to managing these issues.”

As Ukrinform reported, French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call on January 28 agreed on the "need for de-escalation" and the continuation of the "dialogue" on the situation around Ukraine.

On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron. The presidents welcomed the intensification of the Normandy format activities and the meeting of political advisers to the Normandy Four leaders in Paris on January 26. It was noted that a document on the negotiations’ results had been agreed upon for the first time since 2019.
