The European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission) will consider issuing an opinion on the law limiting the influence of oligarchs at its plenary session in the second half of January 2022.

Olha Sovhyria, an MP from the Servant of the People faction, announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"The Bureau of the Venice Commission said it had postponed the issue of giving an opinion on the law of Ukraine 'On the prevention of threats to national security associated with the excessive influence of persons who have significant economic or political weight in public life (oligarchs)' until the next plenary session of the Commission, which will take place in the second half of January 2022," she said, noting that the preliminary consideration of this issue was scheduled for December 10-11, 2021 (129th plenary session of the Venice Commission).

She said the opinion on the law will be given according to the urgent procedure.

On September 10, 2021, at the request of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Liudmyla Denisova, and representatives of four opposition factions, former Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov sent Bill No. 5599 "On the prevention of threats to national security associated with the excessive influence of persons who have significant economic or political weight in public life (oligarchs)" for examination by the Venice Commission.
