Kuleba: Canada ready to work with Ukraine to deter Russia from further aggressive actions

On the sidelines of the NATO North Atlantic Council meeting in Riga, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly agreed to further strengthen the special partnership between Ukraine and Canada.

Dmytro Kuleba informed his Canadian counterpart in detail about the security situation in the temporarily occupied territories and along the border of his country, as well as the signs of Russia's preparations for a possible new incursion into Ukraine.

The heads of Ukrainian and Canadian diplomacies discussed concrete steps within the framework of a comprehensive package to contain Russia from further aggressive actions.

"If Russia sees that the West is serious about the current situation and ready to take decisive action, they will think twice before embarking on any military adventures," Dmitry Kuleba said.

The minister for foreign affairs of Ukraine has thanked the Canadian side for its readiness to work with Ukraine to deter Russia from further aggression.

The Ukrainian foreign minister expressed special gratitude to Canada for its firm and unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity through specific steps, including long-lasting participation in Operation UNIFIER, which has been effectively strengthening Ukraine's Armed Forces.

The top diplomats discussed further security and defense cooperation between Canada and Ukraine.

The ministers coordinated a common position until the next stage of talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran on bringing to justice those responsible for the downing of flight PS752. The ministers agreed to continue to maintain the unity of the International Coordination Group for Victims of flight PS752 in the fight for justice for the victims of the tragedy and their families.
