Kuleba: Foreign policy strategy to help Ukraine achieve its goals more efficiently

“For the first time over 30 years, Ukraine received a systemic foreign policy document, the Foreign Policy Strategy, which will help Ukraine achieve its goals more efficiently,” Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said on the air of a Ukrainian TV channel, the Ministry’s press service informs

“Strategy is a navigator. You can reach your destination without a navigator or a map, relying on your talent. But it is much safer and more efficient to move with a navigator. You will be able to avoid problems on the road, to plan resources correctly, so that to get to the destination on time with minimal costs,” the minister emphasized.

Over the thirty years of independence, Ukraine's foreign policy goals were reflected in certain provisions of the Constitution, laws and decisions, but there was no systematic document that would detail the priorities and goals of foreign policy, Kuleba said.

"Therefore, there were distortions, speculations, ineffective policies in a number of areas. Today, thanks to this modern navigator – and this strategy is very accurate and verified – our state will be able to move forward much more efficiently and achieve its goals," he said.

The minister outlined six main priorities of Ukraine's foreign policy set forth in the document: ensuring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, counteracting the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation, achieving EU and NATO membership, promoting Ukrainian exports and attracting foreign investments, protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens, promoting a positive image of Ukraine in the world.

"These are the six main piles on which Ukraine's foreign policy is based," the minister concluded.

As reported, the National Security and Defense Council approved the Foreign Policy Strategy on July 30.
