President invites IMF Managing Director to visit Ukraine and discuss further cooperation

The press service of the Head of State released a corresponding statement following Zelensky–Georgieva phone conversation on July 28.

Zelensky thanked Georgieva for supporting Ukraine in the difficult year of the pandemic: "The $2.1 billion tranche we received helped us support people, SMEs, our medical industry during several lockdown periods."

The parties also discussed the progress in the implementation of the current IMF Stand-By Arrangement, namely Ukraine’s implementation of key structural beacons envisaged by the program. In particular, two key bills aimed at strengthening corporate governance in banks, amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the High Council of Justice", the Law of Ukraine "On the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine", etc.

"Ukraine's position remains unchanged: relations with the IMF are very important for us and we will continue to implement agreements with international partners," the President of Ukraine stressed.

Zelensky and Georgieva exchanged views on the progress of reforms and institutional changes taking place in Ukraine, including the launch of the land market, infrastructure reforms, and the de-oligarchization bill approved by the Parliament at first reading.

As the President noted, he keeps the implementation of the judicial reform under personal control and makes every effort to implement it successfully.

The pace of Ukraine's economic recovery, including the fulfillment of the state budget of Ukraine and specific indicators of its growth, were discussed separately. Agreements were reached on intensifying the joint work of representatives of the Government of Ukraine and the IMF.

The President of Ukraine invited the IMF Managing Director to visit Ukraine and personally discuss further steps of effective cooperation.
