Zelensky, Michel discuss preparations for Ukraine-EU summit
The meeting took place during a working visit of President Zelensky to Georgia on July 19, according to the website of the head of state.
At the beginning of the conversation, Zelensky thanked Michel for his support in holding the first meeting in the EU+Associated Trio (Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova) format at the highest level and willingness to promote further rapprochement of associated partners with the European Union.
"It is very important that you were present at this meeting. Our peoples deserve a European perspective, given, in particular, that the amount of obligations of our three states under the association agreements can be compared with the obligations of current candidate countries for EU membership," the president of Ukraine said.
The parties discussed preparations for the Ukraine-EU summit scheduled for October this year.
Zelensky offered to consider a number of initiatives to develop practical cooperation between the Associated Trio and the EU, which would benefit both citizens and businesses. These include the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, interaction in the sphere of transport, energy, health, security, defense, the digital market, and trade.
As reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky paid a working visit to Georgia on Monday, July 19.
A meeting of the leaders of the countries of the Associated Trio - Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova - with the participation of President of the European Council Charles Michel took place in Batumi.
According to the Batumi summit declaration, accession to the European Union is a goal that unites the three states. European integration has no alternative for the Associated Trio, and no third party could influence this sovereign choice.
