Ukrainian president appoints Nykyforov as his press secretary

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree appointing Serhiy Nykyforov as his press secretary, the President's Office has reported.

"Based on the results of the selection and interviews, after all the procedures required for registration have been completed, Serhiy Nykyforov has been appointed press secretary of the President of Ukraine," the report reads.

According to the report, given Nykyforov's experience in professional work in journalism, it is expected that he will continue to develop effective communication with the media and form a transparent system of coverage of the president's activity.

The head of state also signed a decree dismissing Iuliia Mendel as presidential press secretary.

Nykyforov previously worked as a news presenter on the Ukraine 24 television channel.

Mendel had served as presidential press secretary since June 2019. On April 30, it emerged that she had tendered her resignation.
