Canada reaffirms support for Ukraine at NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting

Canada has pledged strong support for Ukraine during a meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs on June 1.

"Minister Garneau highlighted Canada’s continued concerns w Russian & Belarusian actions, reiterated Canada’s support to Ukraine, & committed to working with Allies on civilian engagement in Afghanistan," Global Affairs Canada posted on Twitter.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Marc Garneau also "reaffirmed NATO’s role in bolstering the rules-based int’l order."

"NATO 2030 will be a major step in ensuring the Alliance’s continued ability to adapt to evolving security challenges. NATO remains a cornerstone of Canadian security and defence policy," the report reads.

As reported, a NATO summit will take place in Brussels on June 14. The main topic of the summit will be the strengthening of transatlantic ties and consideration of the concept of development of the Alliance.

The summit agenda does not include meetings with partners and the issue of providing a Membership Action Plan.
