Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has welcomed the decision of the Latvian parliament to create a parliamentary group in support of the Crimean Platform.

He said this during a meeting with Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece, who is on an official visit to Ukraine, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

Kuleba and Mūrniece separately discussed preparations for the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform to be held in Kyiv on August 23.

"The foreign minister welcomed the decision of the Latvian parliament to create a parliamentary group to support the Crimean Platform. He called such a step a manifestation of true friendship between Latvia and Ukraine, expressing hope for the active participation of members of the Saeima in the work of the Crimean Platform," the report reads.

Kuleba thanked Mūrniece and members of the Saeima for their constant support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and solidarity with our state against the background of the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation.

The minister also praised Mūrniece's intention to visit the contact line in Donetsk and Luhansk regions on May 19 to learn about the consequences of Russian aggression and the steps Ukraine is taking to advance a political and diplomatic settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.

As Ukrinform reported, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Ināra Mūrniece is on an official visit to Ukraine on May 17-20, 2021.

The Crimean Platform is a new consultative and coordination format initiated by Ukraine to improve the efficiency of the international response to the occupation of Crimea, respond to growing security challenges, step up international pressure on Russia, prevent further human rights violations, protect victims of the occupation regime, and achieve the de-occupation of Crimea. Ukraine actively invites other states to join this international initiative.

The first Crimean Platform summit is scheduled for August 23, 2021.
