Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Strategic Industries Oleh Urusky has discussed the reform of the state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom at a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of the G7 countries and the EU Delegation to Ukraine, according to a statement posted on the government's website.

Urusky familiarized the participants in the meeting with the current situation around the Ministry for Strategic Industries, saying that all appropriate documents have been adopted for the full operation of the newly created central government agency, the statement said.

During the discussion, special attention was paid to the reform of Ukroboronprom and the domestic defense industry in general, as well as the process of adopting bill No. 3822 "On the peculiarities of reforming state-owned enterprises of the defense industry."

Urusky spoke about his vision of reforms and the role of the Ministry for Strategic Industries in this process - the formation of policy in the field of strategic industries.

He noted that the ministry had prepared a draft strategy for reforming Ukraine's defense industry, which has been approved by the government and is currently being considered by the President's Office and the National Security and Defense Council.

"In the future, the decision on this document, including the vision of the reform of Ukroboronprom, will be made by the president of Ukraine," Urusky said, adding that he remains a supporter of creating holding companies with fundamentally different functions.

According to him, the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of bill No. 3822 at second reading will undoubtedly be an important step in the corporatization of state-owned enterprises of the defense industry.

"However, this should be a supporting document for the reform of the defense industry. The current legal framework allows us to start corporatization right now," Urusky said.

The heads of diplomatic missions of the G7 countries and the EU Delegation to Ukraine expressed their readiness to assist in providing professional assistance in the reform process in Ukraine.
