The EU-Ukraine summit scheduled for August 2021 could be postponed until this autumn, Deputy Head of the President's Office of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva has said.

He said this at a meeting of the commission coordinating the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The summit could be held later than August. We are now talking about autumn. But the work is still ongoing. Therefore, as soon as the dates are agreed upon, we will announce them," Zhovkva said.

According to him, the parties need to adjust the schedules of leaders, so the Ukrainian authorities are discussing specific dates with the EU leadership.

At the same time, Zhovkva drew attention to another very important event - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and European Council President Charles Michel confirmed their participation in the first Crimean Platform summit to be held in Kyiv on August 23.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at the commission meeting that at the EU-Ukraine summit it is planned to discuss Ukraine's European integration efforts at the political level and to determine further benchmarks for cooperation.

"Ukraine counts on the support of the EU and its member states, as well as other international partners," Shmyhal said.

He noted that the government, for its part, was doing a lot to realize Ukraine's European integration aspirations. In particular, he added, there are currently 41 bills submitted by the president, the government and people's deputies, which are related to the course for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

Ukraine-EU summits are held on the basis of Article 5 of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, according to which "the Parties shall hold regular political dialogue meetings at Summit level."

Summit meetings are held with the participation of the president of Ukraine, the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission. They are held every year alternately in Ukraine and in Brussels.EU-Ukraine summit could be moved to autumn - Zhovkva
