Escalation and Russian troops on border: Zelensky hold talks with Japan’s Prime Minister

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga about the escalation of the security situation in eastern Ukraine and the concentration of Russian troops near the border.

“The Head of State informed the Prime Minister of Japan about the aggravation of the security situation in eastern Ukraine and the increase in the concentration of Russian troops near the borders of our state,” the President’s press service informs.

The President thanked for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Volodymyr Zelensky stressed that the support of the G7, in particular Japan, was extremely important for Ukraine.

In turn, Yoshihide Suga assured that the Japanese side was closely monitoring the developments and expressed full support for Ukraine.

The parties also exchanged views on preparations for the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform in Kyiv and further bilateral dialogue activities at the highest level.

The President of Ukraine invited the Prime Minister of Japan to take part in the festivities on the occasion of Independence Day and join the work of the Crimean Platform summit.

As reported, the armed forces of the Russian Federation have been lately building up troops near the state border of Ukraine in the north, east and south, as well as in the occupied Crimea. In addition, the number of ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine committed by the Russian armed formations has increased, the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffer losses. At the same time, the Russian Federation conducts a propaganda campaign to justify aggression against Ukraine.

On April 6, it also became known that apart from pulling troops to the Ukrainian border, Russia began a control check of the army's combat readiness.
