U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and State Secretary to the Prime Minister of Sweden Karin Wallensteen discussed the current situation in the occupied Crimea and on the Russia-Ukraine border.

According to the White House press service, the parties discussed their shared concerns over Russia’s sudden military build-up and provocations in occupied Crimea and on Ukraine’s borders.

They also discussed the critical role the OSCE is playing in conflict resolution efforts in Donbas, offering support for increased monitoring and reporting in response to Russia’s destabilizing moves.

In addition to Ukraine, Sullivan and Wallensteen discussed the situation in Yemen, bilateral relations between the United States and Sweden, the fight against climate change, as well as human rights violations in China.

As a reminder, the Russian armed forces have recently been building up troops near the state border of Ukraine in the north, east and south, as well as in the occupied Crimea. In addition, the number of ceasefire violations by the armed formations of the Russian Federation in eastern Ukraine has increased; there are losses among the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian Federation is conducting a propaganda campaign to justify possible aggression against Ukraine.

The United States, other Western countries, as well as the EU and NATO, have come out in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity against the backdrop of Russia's escalation in eastern Ukraine.
