The United States affirms its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty in the face of Russia’s aggression and calls for reforms to strengthen democracy and further Euro-Atlantic integration.

This is underscored in an official statement by the U.S. Department of State following a phone conversation between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on March 31.

“The Secretary affirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s ongoing aggression in Donbas and Crimea. He expressed concern about the security situation in eastern Ukraine and offered condolences on the recent loss of four Ukrainian soldiers,” reads the statement.

In addition, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken highlighted the importance of advancing rule of law and economic reforms “to strengthen Ukraine’s democratic institutions and further its Euro-Atlantic integration.”

The parties also discussed efforts to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and to advance shared interests in combatting the effects of climate change.

Dmytro Kuleba called a conversation “productive and focused”, noting that ways of strengthening security cooperation were discussed.
