EU welcomes signing law on Bureau of Economic Security

The Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine has welcomed the signing by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky of the law on the Bureau of Economic Security.

The Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine wrote this on Twitter.

“The EU Delegation to Ukraine and EU Advisory Mission Ukraine welcome President Zelensky’s signing the Law on the Bureau of Economic Security. Key reform of investigation and law enforcement on economic crime,” reads the report.

According to the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine, next steps should be changes in the criminal procedure code, transparent selection of Bureau of Economic Security’s team.

The Delegation of the EU to Ukraine also assured it is ready to provide support to Ukraine.

As reported, the law on the Bureau of Economic Security was approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 28, 2021.

The document stipulates that the Bureau of Economic Security will be established as a central executive government body to counteract offenses encroaching on the functioning of the state economy. The main function of the Bureau of Economic Security will be analytical work, not enforcement powers.
