Shmyhal expects EU-Ukraine Association Agreement to be reviewed this year
He said this at a joint press conference with representatives of the European Commission in Brussels on Thursday, February 11, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"This review [of the Association Agreement] has started. Further work will be painstaking and technical. It concerns the articles of the agreement, the revision of some standards, which have changed many times over the past few years. The agreement should be brought into line with the standards and parameters that are currently in place in the EU. We also have to take into account the changes and reforms that have taken place in Ukraine. Therefore, this work will obviously continue this year, and I hope that we will be able to review the agreement and sign all the necessary changes as soon as possible," Shmyhal said.
He also stressed that the Ukrainian side expected significant progress to be made this year in getting closer to the signing of the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA), without mutual recognition of electronic trust services and authorized economic operators.
"From the very beginning of the European green course, Ukraine has taken a position to engage in this initiative. The launch of the dialogue between Ukraine and the EU in this area is a clear signal that we have a common vision of our opportunities and challenges in the green energy transition and achieving climate neutrality," Shmyhal said.
A government delegation led by Shmyhal paid a three-day working visit to Brussels from February 9 to February 11. Government representatives met with the leadership of the European Union and NATO. Shmyhal discussed a number of important issues with European Council President Charles Michel and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. A number of other important events were also held. On February 11, government officials took part in the seventh meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in Brussels.
