PACE reminds Russia of its responsibility for execution of ECHR judgments in occupied territories

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has reminded Russia of its responsibility for human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas.

The amendment, initiated by representatives of the Ukrainian delegation, was supported by the PACE in the resolution on the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights adopted on January 26.

The document further notes that Russia has major structural problems which have led to the failure to execute a large number of ECHR judgments, including in the cases over human rights violations in "illegally annexed Crimea and the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions."

"The Assembly is deeply concerned about the large number of cases that have exposed unresolved issues which have been the focus of the Committee of Ministers for more than five years," the resolution said.
