Representatives of the Lublin Triangle at the level of the national security councils of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania will discuss the situation in Belarus and the support for democratic forces in this country at the next meeting.

This became known following a Ukrainian-Polish video conference chaired by Head of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov and Head of the National Security Bureau of Poland Paweł Soloch, Ukrinform reports.

According to Soloch, the talks with the Ukrainian side were "another round of intensive consultations" between Warsaw and Kyiv.

"In recent months, the situation in Belarus has become an increasingly important topic of our cooperation," the head of the National Security Bureau of Poland said.

According to him, the independent and democratic Belarus whose citizens decide the fate of the state themselves is important for the security of Ukraine and Poland. Paweł Soloch stressed that both countries consider it their duty to support the democratization of Belarus.

"For us, the common decisive policy of the West towards the ruling regime of Belarus is important," he said. The Polish official added that the development of the situation in Belarus and the support for civil society will be the topic of consultations at the next meeting of the Lublin Triangle - representatives of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania.

The video conference was also attended by deputy foreign ministers of Ukraine and Poland Vasyl Bodnar and Marcin Przydacz, adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Volodymyr Khandohiy, director of Poland’s Centre for Eastern Studies Adam Eberhardt, as well as representatives of Belarusian opposition Pavel Latushka and Vladislav Kobets.

The video conference focused on the current situation in Belarus and analysis of potential actions by Ukraine and Poland to support civil society in Belarus.
