Zelensky orders analysis of COVID-19 dynamics after holidays

This issue was discussed during a conference call with the participation of government officials, according to the press service of the head of state.

"Volodymyr Zelensky issued an instruction to comprehensively analyze the dynamics of the incidence of COVID-19 after New Year celebrations," the President's Office said.

It was also stated at the meeting that the number of patients with COVID-19 had been decreasing in Ukraine in the past few weeks and the number of those who have recovered had been increasing.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that 22,802 coronavirus patients are currently in hospitals, compared to about 28,000-29,000 five weeks ago.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said that the incidence of pneumonia was also decreasing in the country. According to him, 19,500 COVID-19 cases were recorded over the past week, compared to almost 39,000 in the week from November 9 to 15.

At the same time, he believes that there is a probability that the number of patients with coronavirus will grow after the New Year holidays, in addition to an increase in the seasonal incidence of influenza.

Officials reported that 50,409 beds in Ukrainian hospitals currently had access to medical oxygen.

In total, according to the President's Office, there are almost 66,000 beds for patients with coronavirus in the country today.

In addition, Zelensky was informed that in the near future the Cabinet of Ministers plans to adopt a resolution that will speed up payments to the families of medical workers who died during the fight against COVID-19.

The head of state also set the task of speeding up the creation of a register of vaccinated persons.

The President's Office added that the state continued negotiations on the supply of COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine with several foreign companies.

As many as 1,078,251 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Ukraine as of early Monday, January 4. Some 4,158 cases were recorded on January 3.
