Canada’s Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland wrote about this on Twitter on the 87th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine, which was marked on November 28, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Today, we remember the murder by starvation of millions of Ukrainians by the Soviet regime during the Holodomor. Canada will always stand with Ukraine and defend the people of Ukraine, their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” she wrote.
A reminder that Canada was the first country after Ukraine in 2008 to recognize the Holodomor as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. Since then, Canada officially annually marks the Holodomor Remembrance Day.
