The government and society of Belarus must find a format of dialogue without the use of batons.

"Anyway, the government and society must find a format of dialogue. It does not matter what format, but without the use of batons. [To find] a calm format of dialogue and solve this difficult issue, the difficult situation that continues in Belarus," Zelensky said in an interview with Ukraine 24 TV channel when asked about Ukraine's stance on protests in Belarus and whether it will affect relations between the states.

The President noted that relations between the peoples are "deeper and more important" than relations between the authorities of the countries.

"I would not like anything to affect the friendly relations between really similar, fraternal peoples, Ukrainians and Belarusians... There are many Belarusians in the company I managed for 20 years, they are talented people," Zelensky added.

As reported, the presidential election was held in Belarus on August 9. According to the final results announced on August 14, incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994, received 80.1% of the vote, while opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya got 10.1%.

The protests of citizens who disagree with the official election results are ongoing in the country. Belarusian law enforcement officers use force against peaceful protesters across the country. Security officers apply rubber bullets, stun grenades, and water cannons to stop protests. More than 6,700 people have been detained since the beginning of the protests. At least 250 people have been hospitalized, several people have been killed.
