Ukrainian peacekeepers participating in six UN peacekeeping operations - Foreign Ministry

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said this in a letter of congratulations on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers published on Facebook.

According to the report, Ukraine has been an active participant in UN operations since 1992. Ukraine was among the initiators of the 1994 Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel, and in July 1995 it was one of the first countries to ratify it.

"Today, 313 'blue helmets' represent Ukraine in six UN peacekeeping operations," the report reads.

In particular, 265 Ukrainians take part in the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, eight in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, four in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei, three in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, 24 in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, and nine in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also said that Ukraine ranks sixth by the number of peacekeepers among European countries (after Italy, France, Spain, Ireland, and Germany) and 42nd place among all countries.
