Zelensky, Čaputová discuss agreement on Uzhhorod airport

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a phone conversation with President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová on May 26, according to the president’s press service.

“This airport is vitally important for Ukraine and Zakarpattia region. I look forward to quick approval of the agreement by Slovakia. I’m also convinced that after the end of quarantine measures, our governments should jointly make efforts to resume the dynamics of cooperation in trade, economic, transport and cross-border areas,” Zelensky noted.

The parties exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and Slovakia with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by the governments of the two countries to overcome the effects of the crisis and restore economic activity.

Zelensky thanked his Slovak colleague for the humanitarian aid provided by Slovakia to Ukraine to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The president briefed his interlocutor on Ukraine's latest steps in adopting key reforms and asked for the further support for our country in cooperation with the EU and international financial organizations.

The parties discussed political dialogue measures for the near future and topical issues of bilateral cooperation. Zelensky expressed belief that the continuation of active political dialogue at all levels will contribute to the economic recovery of Ukraine and Slovakia and overcoming the negative consequences of the pandemic.

Čaputová reiterated the invitation to Zelensky to pay an official visit to Slovakia, which was gratefully accepted.

During the conversation, special attention was paid to the security situation in Donbas and the state of implementation of the Paris Summit agreements in the Normandy format. Zelensky thanked Slovakia for its continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In addition, Čaputová thanked Zelensky for the embroidered shirt on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day.
