OSCE ambassador to participate in Normandy format video conference
"The video conference of foreign ministers of the Normandy format countries – Germany, France, Russia, and Ukraine – will be held with the participation of Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Heidi Grau," German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Rainer Breul said at a briefing in Berlin, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
According to him, the conversation will primarily focus on how to "implement" the decisions of the December summit in Paris more "consistently" through the Trilateral Contact Group. It is all the more urgent that the coronavirus pandemic has not bypassed the east of Ukraine, Breul added.
The video conference will be held in the afternoon. The ministers are expected to make statements after the conference.
As reported, Foreign Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba stated that the primary purpose of the Normandy Four ministers' video conference was to assess what had been done "from the moment of the Paris Summit until this Thursday."
The previous meeting of the Normandy Four leaders was held on December 9, 2019. The parties agreed on the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine, but Russian-controlled militants have repeatedly violated the ceasefire regime.
It was also decided that the next Normandy format summit would be held in four months, i.e. in April 2020, but the meeting was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
