During its first chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation, Ukraine has planned to hold more than 20 events, focusing on Russian aggression, hybrid war against Ukraine and militarization of occupied Crimea.

“We have planned to hold more than 20 events during Ukraine’s chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation, which will last until August. It is quite obvious that one of the central topics of the Ukrainian chairmanship will be the Russian aggression and hybrid war against Ukraine, Russia’s violation of its international obligations, illegal militarization of the Crimean peninsula,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Yehor Bozhok said in a commentary to Ukrinform.

He recalled that Ukraine would chair the OSCE Forum on Security Cooperation for the first time.

The deputy minister explained that the Forum for Security Cooperation was the only OSCE advisory body authorized to consider the military-political dimension of the Organization's activities in order to strengthen military security and reduce the risk of conflicts in Europe.

“The Forum is of the utmost importance for the implementation of confidence-building and security measures in the military sector, exchange of military information and inspection activities between OSCE participating states, implementation of the Code of Conduct on Politico-Military Aspects of Security. The Forum also deals with arms control, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, mine clearance and provides practical assistance in combating arms trafficking,” Bozhok emphasized.

On April 20, Ukraine took over the Chairmanship of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation from Turkey. Ukraine will be the first to chair the Forum online amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The priority issues for consideration of plenary sessions will include contemporary challenges to regional and international security, first of all, hybrid threats, militarization and obstruction of navigation in the Azov-Black Sea basin, and a number of other issues within the framework of the Forum's mandate.
