Zelensky sure parliament will support budget amendments in near future

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is confident that the Verkhovna Rada will support amendments to the state budget in the near future.

He said this in his address to compatriots broadcast on Facebook on Wednesday, April 1.

"I am sure that people's deputies will vote for these changes in the coming days and will not take away such important support from the people," Zelensky said.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada on March 30 sent amendments to the state budget for 2020, proposing to reduce revenues by UAH 122.9 billion and increase expenditures by UAH 79.2 billion, for repeated first reading.

An ad hoc meeting of the Verkhovna Rada may be held next week to approve the budget amendments at repeated first reading and the bill on banks at second reading, according to Yevheniia Kravchuk, deputy head of the Servant of the People faction.

She added that the budget and finance committees still need to meet before that. There is as yet no date for the ad hoc parliament meeting.
