Verkhovna Rada ratifies Ukraine-France agreement on maritime security
A total of 261 MPs voted for the relevant bill, No.0025, the press service of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.
“On March 4, the Verkhovna Rada ratified the agreement between the Governments of Ukraine and France on strengthening the system of maritime security and border protection. In three years, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine will receive 20 modern patrol ships from the French company OSEA,” the report says.
According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, cooperation in the maritime and border security is the second Ukrainian-French project, which is extremely important after the ministry’s aviation.
According to Avakov, the total value of the contract between France and Ukraine is EUR 136.5 million, and the cost of one fully equipped ship is EUR 6.8 million.
As noted, Ukraine will receive these funds through special borrowing at 4.25% per annum from the state treasury of France and a consortium of French banks.
