Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Giunduz Mamedov held a meeting with representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to discuss the evidence of Russian aggression in Donbas and Crimea.

"The Ukrainian law enforcement agencies of Ukraine under the coordination of the Prosecutor General's Office continue to gather evidence of the international-scale armed conflict and the control of the Russian Federation over the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office informs.

According to Mamedov, the process of gathering evidence, documenting and conducting pre-trial investigations is systematic, unified and coordinated.

In particular, the criminal proceedings oversight division was established for crimes committed during the armed conflict at the Prosecutor General's Office and the relevant units were created in the regional prosecutor's offices in Donbas.

It is specified that prosecutors at the central level provide procedural guidance in about 300 large-scale criminal proceedings, and the subject of consideration of regional prosecutors are more than 12,000 criminal proceedings.

“For six years of armed aggression, we already have some experience in investigating and prosecuting crimes against humanity and war crimes. We have now initiated amendments to national legislation for the implementation of international humanitarian law (IHL) and the ratification of the Rome Statute,” Mamedov added.

According to him, the Prosecutor General's Office plans, together with the public sector, to create a register of violations of IHL norms, i.e., the attacks on civilian facilities, killings and torture of prisoners of war and civilians, "because more than 3,500 people were detained illegally and were subjected to torture and ill-treatment. "

The parties also discussed specific cases of crimes committed in the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in eastern Ukraine, as well as next steps to further study and analyze the situation in the country.
