Ukraine will not delay adoption of law on national minorities - Kuleba
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Dmytro Kuleba said this at a briefing with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto in Kyiv on Friday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"The issue concerns a draft law on national minorities. [...] The adoption of this law is envisaged by the law of Ukraine on the functioning of Ukrainian as a state language. Our Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports is actively drafting this bill, and it will be publicly discussed. I cannot say right now when it will come to parliament, but I assure you that Ukraine will not delay this process," Kuleba said, when asked when a bill on the protection of minority languages could be tabled in parliament.
Kuleba also said that Ukraine adheres to its international commitments in the field of protection of national minorities, and is proud of and appreciates every national minority that exists in the country.
Earlier, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine said it would submit a draft law on minority languages for public discussion in the first quarter of 2020.
