Ambassador of Turkey: Relations with Ukraine not dependent on foreign factors
Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Güldere said this to an Ukrinform correspondent, when asked whether the rapprochement between Ankara and Moscow in the context of US troops withdrawal from Syria would affect Ukraine-Turkey relations.
“Our relations with Russia cannot be viewed from one angle. There are issues on which we agree with Russia and there are certain issues on which we disagree,” the ambassador said.
The situation in Syria, he said, is the national security issue for Turkey "which we are trying to resolve in cooperation with all the parties involved."
"For a long time, we have been trying to explain that we are dealing with a threat originating from northern Syria against us and our partners," Yağmur Ahmet Güldere said.
According to the ambassador, “our relations with Russia are based on the same foundation in the Syrian issue and other issues."
“Meanwhile, relations with Ukraine are something quite different. Our cooperation with Ukraine is based on the foundation of objective mutual interests having a wide range from economy, defense, agriculture to research and development. We have many common issues with Ukraine. And we continue to develop these relations regardless of foreign factors,” the Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine said.
