Personal restrictive measures imposed by the European Union in 2019 against Ukraine's fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and his son Oleksandr Yanukovych remain in force, a spokesperson of the Court of Justice of the European Union has told an Ukrinform correspondent.

At the same time, he confirmed that the court on September 24 annulled a Council of the European Union decision of 2018 imposing restrictive measures against Yanukovych.

According to the interlocutor, the current sanctions imposed for 2019-2020 remain in force. He also stressed that Council of the European Union decisions of 2019 regarding Yanukovych and his son were currently under appeal.

Earlier on Tuesday, September 24, Yuriy Kirasyr, spokesman for Oleksandr Yanukovych, citing a General Court judgment of September 24, 2019, said that the court had lifted sanctions against former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

On March 4, 2019, the Council of the European Union extended sanctions against Yanukovych and 11 other senior officials until March 6, 2020. Restrictive measures were imposed for the unlawful seizure of state assets.
