US urges Russia to provide OSCE SMM with access to occupied Crimea

US Ambassador to the OSCE James Gilmore III has urged the Russian Federation to "open the doors" to OSCE SMM to the annexed Crimea.

He made a corresponding statement at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw following a speech by Russian representatives, the press service of the US Mission to the OSCE posted on Twitter.

“Ironic how pro-occupation voices at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting 2019 deny [human rights] abuses and ask us to ‘visit Crimea.’ Russia, why don't you open the doors to the OSCE SMM and the UN Human Rights Office in Ukraine and let the world see the truth about your brutal occupation?” Gilmore stressed.

In addition, the U.S. delegation responded to statements directed against defenders of Crimean Tatars which were made in Warsaw.

“We condemn the wrongful characterization of peaceful Crimean Tatar human rights defenders as ‘terrorists and extremists’ by pro-occupation voices at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting 2019. Peaceful resistance to Russia's brutal occupation is an inspiration to all who love freedom. Crimea is Ukraine,” reads the statement of the U.S. delegation on Facebook.
