Michael Carpenter, a former foreign policy advisor to U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and now the Senior Director of the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, has offered U.S. President Donald Trump to invite Ukraine to the next G7 summit.
“How about inviting Ukraine to the next G7 meeting? It's a vibrant democracy that's fighting to survive as a sovereign state. While you [Trump] are at it, why don't you tell President Putin to stay at home until he withdraws his troops from Ukraine,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
As reported, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron during a telephone conversation on August 20 agreed to return Russia to the G7 as early as next year. The governments of Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom opposed this decision. Later, according to media reports, Trump said that it was possible to invite Russia as a “guest” to the next summit, which will be held in the U.S. in 2020.
