Berlin calls on Moscow to take constructive position in negotiations on Donbas
The German official said this on Wednesday, August 21, before flying to Moscow where he will meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov the same day, DW reports.
"Finally, we can expect to see the light at the end of the tunnel in such issues as the ceasefire regime, the withdrawal of troops and the implementation of the Minsk agreements," the dpa news agency quotes Maas as saying.
"Now all parties have to demonstrate a willingness to engage in dialogue and action, otherwise people will continue to die in this conflict," he said.
Commenting on the current state of Germany-Russia relations, the foreign minister acknowledged the existence of "fundamentally different views in many areas."
"We have to discuss this as results can be achieved only if Moscow is involved in important international topics," the German official said. According to him, this requires direct negotiations and open dialogue.
