The U.S. Embassy believes that reaction of President Zelensky and the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the escalation of conflict in Donbas merits full support of the Normandy Four, including Russia.

“President Zelensky and the Armed Forces of Ukraine displayed restraint and bravery in the face of aggression that killed four Ukrainian soldiers on August 6 during a declared ceasefire, preserving potential for a real ceasefire that saves Ukrainian lives and accelerated diplomacy to peacefully settle the conflict. This approach merits full support of the Normandy Four, including Russia,” the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine posted on Facebook.

The Embassy added that Russia could show similar bravery and end the conflict by withdrawing its forces immediately.

As reported, on August 6, four Ukrainian soldiers were killed after Russian occupation troops fired at the positions of the Ukrainian Joint Forces near Pavlopil, Donetsk region.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on the leaders of the Normandy format participating countries to resume negotiations as soon as possible because of the violation of ceasefire on part of the Russian occupation forces and the death of four Ukrainian soldiers.
