Mejlis reports on 73 searches, 69 detentions and 200 arrests in Crimea over past six months

A total of 73 searches, 69 detentions and 200 arrests were illegally conducted in the occupied Crimea in the first half of 2019. Most human rights violations were committed against Crimean Tatars.

"In the first half of the year, 73 searches were conducted in the occupied Crimea, 55 of which were carried out in the houses of Crimean Tatars. There were 69 detentions recorded, including 57 detentions of Crimean Tatars. Two hundred arrests were registered, and 138 of the arrested were representatives of the indigenous people," head of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariyev said at a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In addition, according to him, 381 cases of violation of the right to a fair trial were recorded, of which 261 cases concerned Crimean Tatars.

The member of the Mejlis noted that there had been 31 Crimean Tatars among 36 people illegally convoyed from Crimea to Russia.

As of today, 60 political prisoners and 24 Ukrainian sailors were convoyed to Russia from the territory of the occupied Crimea over the past six months.

Twenty-nine persons out of those 60 have already been sentenced, while the rest are kept in custody.
