Avakov, Taylor discuss political situation in Ukraine ahead of snap elections

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov held a meeting with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine William Taylor, the press service of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports.

“Today, June 24, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov met with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires a.i. in Ukraine William Taylor. Avakov congratulated Mr. Taylor on his appointment, who since June 18 has headed the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine for the second time, and expressed confidence that the activities of such an experienced diplomat would benefit both Ukraine and the United States," the report says.

The sides exchanged views on the internal political situation in Ukraine in the context of the pre-election process, as well as on the prospects and possible configurations of the reboot of power.

In turn, the parties paid great attention to the role and tasks of the Interior Ministry in ensuring equal rights and free expression of the will in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The parties also discussed some issues of the Ukrainian-American technical cooperation in the security sector, promising areas of attracting the American side to further strengthening and developing of units of the Interior Ministry’s system.
