First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova met with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent.

“The parties discussed the common policy of Ukraine and the US towards the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas after the Ukrainian presidential election,” the press service of the Information Policy Ministry of Ukraine reports.

Dzhaparova noted that support of the US in further conduct of political and economic reform in the transitional period following the presidential election and on the eve of the parliamentary elections is crucial both for the Ukrainian people and the Government of Ukraine.

In addition, the parties discussed Russia’s extremely provocative decision to grant expedited Russian citizenship to Ukrainians living in Russia-controlled territories of eastern Ukraine, which is yet another proof of the negligence of international law and a brutal violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine thanked the American side for continuing the consistent policy of non-recognition.

The meeting was also attended by Joseph Pennington, Charge d’Affaires ad interim of the US to Ukraine, and Anton Cooper, a diplomat of the political department of the US Embassy in Ukraine.

As a reminder, a press statement by Morgan Ortagus, the spokesperson for the US Department of State, regarding the provision of expedited Russian citizenship reads that “President Putin’s decision creates a serious obstacle to the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the reintegration of the Donbas region. The Minsk agreements, signed by Russia, call for the full restoration of Ukrainian government control over eastern Ukraine.”
