Ukraine’s president-elect Volodymyr Zelensky has met with Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.

"Newly elected President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland discussed the fight against corruption and the Minsk format for settling the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The meeting took place in Kyiv on Wednesday, May 8," the press service of Zelensky reports.

According to the press service, Volodymyr Zelensky has stressed that he wants to gain victory over corruption, not to talk about the fight against it. To this end, Zelensky’s team will make an effort so that Ukrainian citizens will interact with officials as rarely as possible.

"Our goal is a state in a smartphone," the newly elected president explained.

As reported, Chrystia Freeland noted during the meeting that Canada could follow the example of Ukraine in some areas, in particular, in the introduction of the system of electronic declarations.

"We see a lot in common between you and our prime minister Trudeau. Four weeks before the election, nobody believed that we would win," the Canadian Foreign Minister said.

It is very important for present-day politicians to listen to their citizens, Freeland emphasized. She also assured that Volodymyr Zelensky could rely on Canada's support in the international arena.

"It is very important that the entire Ukraine voted for you. Democratic Ukraine with a successful economy is an example for all the countries of the post-Soviet region, in particular for Russians," Freeland said.

According to the press service of Volodymyr Zelensky, the parties also discussed the search for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

"We have a chance to stop the fire and return Donbas," the newly elected president said.
