"In the capital of Russia, Moscow, the activists of the Strategy 18 Russian initiative held a series of single-person protests demanding to release Ukrainian citizens, who have been jailed in Russia and annexed Crimea for political reasons, including Ukrainian sailors captured by FSB officers off the coast of Crimea in November 2018, Ukrainian director, Crimean resident and political prisoner Oleg Sentsov, and Crimean Tatar activists," Crimea.Realities reports.
Russian activists from St. Petersburg and Moscow united in an ongoing rally called "Strategy 18" in tribute to the day of deportation of Crimean Tatars on May 18, 1944. On the 18th of every month, the activists hold protest actions in their cities to tell about the situation in the annexed Crimea and inform Russian society about the violations of human rights and freedoms.
About 70 Ukrainian political prisoners are held in Russia and the occupied Crimea, including Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko, who was sentenced to 12 years in a maximum security penal colony on allegations of spying.
