‘Normandy format’ to discuss deployment of UN peacekeepers in Donbas – president

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this during the Pulse talk show in the air of 112 TV channel on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“We agreed that the issue of peacekeepers would be on the agenda of the meeting in the Normandy format as early as May or early June,” the president said.

“In May or at the beginning of June, documents of the Normandy format will be signed, which will provide for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Ukrainian territory, the withdrawal of heavy machinery and artillery, the disarmament of illegal armed groups and the decision to introduce the Blue Helmets," Poroshenko noted.

The head of state stressed that "this is the shortest period in order to ensure peace in Donbas and help Ukrainians living in the occupied territory."

Poroshenko does not exclude that the meeting can take place on the anniversary of the opening of the second front - the day of the landing of the Allied troops in Normandy. "President of the Russian Federation Putin will be certainly invited… We have a clear program what to do in order to finally bring peace to the long-suffering land of Ukraine," the president stressed.
