The U.S. Department of State condemned Russia’s actions in Crimea, which turned into intimidation and repression of Crimean Tatars, and called on the Russian Federation to release all illegally detained citizens.

U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino wrote the relevant statement on his official Twitter page on Thursday.

“We condemn the actions of Russian occupation authorities in Crimea. Armed and masked FSB raided Crimean Tatar homes, terrorizing families and arresting 20+ individuals. Russia, release these men and the 70+ other unjustly imprisoned Ukrainians,” he wrote on Twitter, adding hashtag #CrimeaIsUkraine.

Robert Palladino also posted a reference to the official statement by the Embassy of the United States in Ukraine that expressed concerns about Russia’s raids and massive intimidation targeting Crimean Tatars.

As Ukrinform reported, on March 27, mass searches were conducted in the houses of Crimean Tatars, the activists of the Crimean Solidarity organization.
